After my HAIR-owing experience last sumhaircolormer (see what I did there?), I have been testing several color lines including Organic Color Systems, All Nutrient, Redken Chromatics, Matrix Colorinsider, O+M Color, L’anza, L’oreal Inoa to find a line that works for both you and me.

My prerequisites were strong. I wanted a color line that is ammonia free. This allows for coloring with less damage and less long term integrity loss. I wanted a color line with no PPD or PTD chemicals to prevent the strong reactions. And I was really hoping for no resorcinol. So I did my homework. I used the products first hand and studied material safety data sheets looking for the optimal choice to provide my clients for their color needs. I narrowed it down to three:

  • very clean and green
  • very creative and intermixable
  • no odor
  • no ammonia, ppd, ptd

  • very high gluten content
  • whole system and technique change
  • needs heat to process
  • hair must be purified to apply
  • very high cost per service
  • very small color pallette
  • lack of local support/education
  • shipping and inventory issues

  • large color pallette
  • familiarity
  • local education and support
  • easily accessible

  • grey coverage line not intermixable with other colors
  • outside of grey coverage line, not great grey coverage
  • high cost per service
  • some itching and burning experienced

  • large color pallette
  • most colors are intermixable
  • no ammonia
  • great grey coverage
  • tons of support and education
  • no odor
  • great price point
  • widely known and liked

  • still has a bit of resorcinol
  • 5 extra minutes on the processing time
